Troubleshooting

If something looks wrong, the LED ring and the icon on the LCD will tell you what's happening. Most issues are recoverable in under a minute.

Always try this first

  1. Unplug from the car.
  2. Switch the charger's breaker at your fuseboard off, wait 30 seconds, switch back on.
  3. Wait for the LED ring to do its self-test (yellow + green blinking, then green breathing).
  4. Try to start charging again.

Most transient faults clear with a power cycle. If the same red light comes back, look it up in the table below.

Fault states

LED / iconMeansWhyWhat to try
Solid redInternal contactor failureA contactor inside the charger has welded or stuck.Power off at the fuseboard for 30 seconds and try again. If it persists, contact us — we’ll handle the warranty claim.
Solid yellowEmergency stop pressedThe red emergency button on the side is engaged.Twist the red button clockwise until it pops back out. Then unplug and replug your car.
Solid red (with ground icon)Earthing not detectedThe charger can’t verify the earth connection — typically a wiring issue.Don’t bypass — contact us. Charging without good earthing is unsafe.
Solid red (with U> icon)Over-voltageYour supply voltage is above the safe range.Usually a transient grid issue. If it persists, log it and contact us — we may need to involve ESB Networks.
Solid red (with U< icon)Under-voltageYour supply voltage has dropped below the safe range.Often happens during heavy household load (electric shower + immersion + oven). Charge at a different time and see if it clears.
Solid red (with current icon)Over-currentA short circuit may have occurred.Stop using the charger and contact us — this needs a professional check.
Solid red (car icon)CP signal abnormalThe handshake between charger and car isn’t completing — usually a connector seating issue.Unplug, check the connector for water or debris, and replug firmly. Try a different car if available.
Solid red (open lid icon)Cover openThe front cover has been opened.Close the cover and screw it back down. If you didn’t open it, contact us.
Solid red (thermometer icon)Over-temperatureThe unit is too hot — direct sunlight, or a wiring issue at the terminal.Pause charging for 30 minutes. If it keeps happening, contact us — the terminal screws may need re-torquing.
Yellow lights ON, three pulsesLED board offlineInternal cable to the LED ring has come loose.Contact us — the cover needs to come off to reseat the cable.
Yellow flash, four timesRFID off-lineRFID reader can’t communicate with the main board.Power-cycle at the fuseboard. If it persists, contact us.
All red ONMeter offlineInternal energy-meter chip not responding.Power-cycle at the fuseboard. If it persists, contact us — needs warranty service.
Yellow alternating with redDLB box offlineThe optional Dynamic Load Balance box has lost connection.Only relevant if you have the DLB add-on. Check the cable between the DLB box and the charger.
Light goes out completelyLeakage faultThe internal RCD has tripped.Power off at the fuseboard. Open the front cover, reset the internal RCD switch, close the cover, power back on. If it trips again, stop using the charger and contact us.

Phone won't connect to the charger

If Z-BOX can't find the charger over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, you can force it back to Bluetooth-only mode. Don't open the cover yourself — instead:

  1. Hold a registered RFID card on the reader for ~5 seconds (this restores the password to the default 123456).
  2. If that doesn't work, contact us — there's a longer reset that requires the cover off, and we'd rather one of our installers do it.

When to call us

  • Any red LED that comes back after a power cycle.
  • Burning smell, scorch marks, or a charger that feels hot to the touch.
  • Repeat trips at your fuseboard.
  • Cable damage of any kind.

Email ev@volteire.ie with a photo. We'll respond within one business day and handle the warranty claim with the manufacturer if needed.
