SEAI EV Charger Grant Eligibility (2026)
The SEAI EV Home Charger Grant pays a flat €300 towards a home EV charger installation in Ireland. Most owner-occupied and rented homes with off-street parking qualify. Below are the full eligibility rules so you can self-check before applying.
Quick eligibility check
Most Irish homes with off-street parking qualify for the €300 SEAI Home Charger Grant. Answer three questions:
- 1. Does the home have private off-street parking (driveway, garage or designated space)?
- 2. Has anyone claimed the SEAI EV Home Charger Grant at this property before? (One grant per MPRN.)
- 3. Are you the homeowner, or a renter with written landlord permission?
Three yeses (and a “no” to question 2) means you're likely eligible. Start a photo assessment and we'll confirm before submitting your application.
You qualify if…
- You own or rent a private home in Ireland
- Your home has off-street parking (driveway, garage, or off-road parking inside the property boundary)
- You have a valid MPRN (electricity meter point reference number)
- No previous SEAI EV charger grant has been claimed at this MPRN
- You are installing a charger from the SEAI Smart Charger Register
- The installation is carried out by a Safe Electric registered electrician
- Your home's existing electrics meet the technical standards (or are upgraded as part of the work)
You don't qualify if…
- Apartment installs that do not meet the Home Charger Grant rules or need the separate apartment charging route
- Homes without off-street parking (parking on a public road only)
- Properties where a SEAI EV charger grant has already been claimed at the MPRN
- Chargers not on the SEAI Smart Charger Register
- Self-installations without Safe Electric certification
One grant per MPRN
The SEAI EV Home Charger Grant is one per electricity meter (MPRN), not per person. If a previous owner or tenant has already claimed the grant at your address, you cannot claim a second grant — the existing charger transfers with the property. Volt Éire checks your MPRN history on application so there are no surprises.
Buying a second-hand home? Ask the vendor whether a previous SEAI EV charger grant has been claimed. If yes, your installation is still possible at our Standard pricing — but you won't receive the €300 refund.
Eligibility FAQs
- How much is the SEAI EV charger grant in 2026?
- The SEAI EV Home Charger Grant is a flat €300 — not "up to". The grant amount has been €300 since the scheme was reformed and is paid as a refund after installation.
- Do I need to own an EV to get the SEAI grant?
- No. You do not need to own or have ordered an electric vehicle to qualify for the SEAI EV Home Charger Grant. Many homeowners install a charger before purchasing their first EV.
- Can renters claim the SEAI grant?
- Yes — renters are eligible provided they have written permission from the property owner. The grant is paid to the person who applies and pays for the installation, which can be either the tenant or the landlord.
- What if a previous tenant or owner claimed the grant?
- The SEAI grant is one per MPRN (electricity meter), not per occupant. If the previous occupant or owner claimed the grant at your address, you cannot claim a second grant — the existing charger transfers with the property.
- Does my charger need to be on the SEAI list?
- Yes — only chargers on the SEAI Smart Charger Register qualify for the grant. The BENY 7.4 kW unit Volt Éire installs is on the register, so you do not need to verify this yourself.
- How do I confirm my MPRN is unused?
- Volt Éire checks this for you when you apply. If the MPRN has a previous SEAI grant claim, we tell you upfront before you book — no surprises.
