Who installs the EV charger?

Home EV charger installation must be completed by a Safe Electric registered electrician. Volt Éire reviews your photos first, then the electrician installs and tests the dedicated EV circuit and provides the required certification.

What does the photo assessment check?

The assessment checks your fuseboard, meter, earthing/protection and gas/water bonding evidence, off-street parking, proposed cable route and electricity bill/MPRN. These checks confirm whether the home fits Standard Installation pricing or needs electrical review before booking.

How long does EV charger installation take?

Most Standard Installations take 2-4 hours on the day. The photo assessment, SEAI grant approval (typically same-day) and booking happen beforehand, so install day is just the electrical work, charger commissioning and Safe Electric certification.

Do I need to own an EV before installing a home charger?

No. You can install a home EV charger and claim the €300 SEAI grant before you take delivery of your EV. Many customers install ahead of their vehicle so the charger is ready on day one.

How installation works

The process is built around finding issues before install day. Photos do the first pass; a Safe Electric registered electrician handles the electrical work, testing and certification.

Photo assessment

Upload your fuseboard, meter, earthing/bonding evidence, parking space, cable route and electricity bill. We use these to confirm Standard Installation eligibility before you book.

Step 2

SEAI grant and booking

If your home is eligible, you book your installation and we handle the €300 SEAI Home Charger Grant paperwork around the Letter of Offer and post-install declaration.

Step 3

Safe Electric installation

A Safe Electric registered electrician installs a dedicated EV circuit, mounts the charger, tests the installation and provides the required certification.

Who installs your EV charger?

Every Volt Éire installation is completed by a Safe Electric registered electrician — the legally required register for domestic electrical work in Ireland. We coordinate the photo assessment, the SEAI Home Charger Grant paperwork, and the post-install Safe Electric certification you'll need for the grant claim, your insurer and resale.

What the electrician checks

EV chargers add a sustained load to your home's electrics, so the existing setup matters. The photo assessment is designed to spot the homes that are standard, and the homes that need review, before anyone drills a wall or takes payment for extras.

Fixed-price when the home is standard

Standard Installation includes the 7.4 kW smart charger, typical cabling/materials, installation, testing, certification, SEAI paperwork and customer support. If your photos show an older fuseboard, missing bonding, a complex route or another electrical issue, we quote that work before you book.
