Site requirements

How many workplace chargers do you need?

Count the vehicles that need energy during a typical working day, not just the total parking spaces. The time vehicles spend on site helps determine a suitable charging arrangement.

Staff parking

Note current EV use, expected growth and whether staff can move vehicles during the day. Decide how bays will be shared and what happens when charging is complete.

Visitors and tenants

Describe who may use the chargers, how they enter the car park and how long they usually stay. A landlord and tenant may need to agree installation and electricity responsibilities.

Company vehicles

Explain arrival times, departure deadlines and daily charging needs. A vehicle parked overnight has a different requirement from one returning briefly between trips.

What affects workplace EV charger installation cost?

We quote the electrical and installation work for your site. A residential package price is not a budget for a workplace car park.

Equipment and bay layout

Charger quantity, mounting positions, pedestals, vehicle access and the route between the supply and bays affect the equipment and labour needed.

Supply and load management

The contractor assesses available capacity alongside existing building demand. Load management may allow chargers to share a suitable supply; it does not remove the need for assessment.

Groundworks and access

Trenching, containment, surface reinstatement and restrictions on working hours can change the price. Ask for these items and any exclusions to be stated in the quote.

Day-to-day use

Agree access, electricity costs and staff charging rules

The electrical installation and the workplace charging policy need to fit together. Decide these points before selecting equipment or assuming a payment system is included.

Access and bay sharing

Identify eligible users, opening hours, booking or rotation rules and how visitors obtain access. Keep cables and parked vehicles clear of pedestrian routes.

Electricity and records

Decide whether the employer pays for electricity or needs a separate charging service. If billing or usage reports are required, confirm the provider, compatible equipment and recurring costs before ordering.

Benefit in kind

Revenue provides a BIK exemption for charging facilities on an employer’s business premises where all employees and directors can use them. Employer-provided home chargers have different conditions. Ask your accountant to check the proposed arrangement; a tax exemption is not an installation grant.

Parking and users

Describe the bays to consider, who will charge and how long vehicles remain on site. Include future expansion if it is already planned.

Available site information

If you have a car park plan, supply records or information about existing chargers, tell us. Our team can explain what is useful; do not open electrical enclosures to collect photos.

Approval and delivery

Identify the person who can approve the work, any landlord consent needed and site access rules. We agree the review needed before confirming equipment and installation scope.

Grants and project scope

Confirm the scheme and who can deliver the required service before committing to work.

Budget using the confirmed installation cost

Do not apply the Home Charger Grant to office car park equipment. Check current SEAI business supports for your applicant and project; vehicle or fleet assessment support is not automatically a grant for workplace chargers.

Common questions

Can we install EV chargers for employees?

Yes, subject to a suitable supply, parking arrangement and any permissions needed for the premises. Tell us who will use them and whether your organisation owns or leases the site.

Should a workplace choose the highest-power charger?

Choose equipment around the vehicles, parking time and available supply. A higher charger rating does not mean every car can use that output or that the site can supply it. The contractor assesses the suitable options.

Can chargers share the building’s electrical capacity?

Load management may help share available power between chargers and other building loads. Its suitability and operating limits need to be assessed for the site.

Can you run employee charging payments for us?

Our current service covers installation enquiries and the electrical scope. We do not operate driver billing or a charging network. If your project depends on a separate payment service, confirm those requirements before selecting equipment.

Is an SEAI workplace charger grant guaranteed?

No grant is included in our workplace quote unless an applicable scheme and approval have been confirmed. Check the current SEAI business supports and distinguish charging equipment from vehicle purchase or fleet assessment supports.

How long will workplace installation take?

Timing depends on the agreed scope, permissions, equipment, site access and any electrical or ground works. We confirm a project schedule after assessment rather than applying a home installation timescale.

Do workplace car parks have building-regulation charging requirements?

Irish requirements distinguish existing non-residential buildings with more than 20 parking spaces from new buildings or qualifying major renovations with more than 10. Parking location, project dates and exemptions matter, including conditions for buildings owned and occupied by an SME.
