Workplace EV Charger Installation Costs in Ireland: What to Budget For

3 min read
Updated

A workplace EV charger installation needs a site-specific quote. The cost includes more than the charger: electrical work, the route to the bays, mounting, possible groundworks and installation access all affect the proposal. Use this guide to prepare a budget and compare quotes for workplace EV charging in Ireland.

Start with the charging requirement

Describe who will use the chargers and when the vehicles are on site. Staff cars parked through the working day, visitors staying briefly and company vehicles charging overnight can require different arrangements. Count the bays to consider now and note any later expansion already planned.

A higher-rated charger is not automatically the right choice. SEAI’s business charging guidance advises considering parking duration, vehicle needs and the effect on the site’s electricity supply. The vehicles and available capacity must be assessed alongside the equipment.

What should an installation quote cover?

  • Charging equipment: the proposed units, quantity, mounting and any equipment needed for the agreed access arrangement.
  • Electrical work: distribution, protection, cabling and any assessed load-management requirement.
  • Routes and building work: containment, ducts, excavation, building penetrations and reinstatement where included.
  • Installation delivery: labour, site access arrangements and any agreed working restrictions.
  • Completion: testing, certification, commissioning and the handover information specified for the work.

Ask each provider to identify the assumptions behind the quote. A missing plan, unknown supply detail or unconfirmed cable route should be visible as an open item rather than hidden in a headline equipment price.

Why can similar car parks have different costs?

Two sites with the same number of bays can require different installations. The nearest suitable supply may be inside a building, across a yard or beyond a shared area. The route may need surface containment, new ducts, excavation or additional permission. Access rules can also affect when the work is possible.

The contractor must assess the supply alongside the building’s existing demand. Load management may help share suitable available capacity, but it is not a substitute for confirming the electrical design. If a connection change is needed, agree who will obtain the requirements and costs from ESB Networks.

Separate installation costs from operating costs

Ask which costs are one-off and which continue after handover. Electricity, servicing, software subscriptions or a separate payment provider should not be assumed to be included just because a quote includes chargers. Identify who owns the equipment, pays the electricity bill and handles the relevant support arrangements.

Volt Éire’s current service covers installation enquiries. We do not operate employee billing or a public charging network. If a separate service is essential to your project, confirm its equipment and contract requirements before selecting the chargers.

Compare quotes using the same scope

  1. Check that the quotes cover the same bays and equipment requirement.
  2. Compare cable routes, electrical work and any included groundworks.
  3. Read the exclusions and the items awaiting assessment.
  4. Confirm VAT presentation and any separate third-party or recurring costs.
  5. Check the permissions, site access and completion records required.
  6. Ask what is included for future expansion and what would be later work.

Use the same brief for each enquiry. This makes differences easier to understand and reduces the chance of comparing an equipment-only price with a complete installation proposal.

Should a workplace grant be included in the budget?

Confirm a scheme that applies to the specific project before counting any funding. A grant for a vehicle or fleet assessment is not automatically funding for office car park chargers. Our workplace grants guide links to the current official supports and explains the distinction.

Request a workplace installation review

Start with the workplace location, intended users and approximate number of bays, if known. You can mention existing chargers, site plans or landlord requirements without sending a full technical pack.

Discuss your workplace charging project. We will review the brief and agree the information or site assessment needed before quoting.

Official sources checked 23 October 2026. Final equipment, electrical design, price and programme depend on the assessed site.

Discuss workplace charging

Send your name, email and a short description of the site. We will review what you need and reply about the next step before quoting the installation.
