Short answer: The Ohme Home Pro and Ohme ePod charge at the same 7.4 kW, use the same Ohme app and connect through a built-in mobile SIM. The Home Pro has a fixed Type 2 cable (5 m or 8 m) and a screen. The ePod has a Type 2 socket, lights and buttons instead of a screen, and a separate cable that stows in the car. Choose on cable reach, how you park and whether you want to read the charger at a glance.

Which should you choose?
Choose the Home Pro if
- You want to unhook the cable and plug in, with nothing to take from the boot.
- You want to see charging status on the wall without opening the app.
- Your car's charging port is some distance from the wall. The 8 m version reaches more parking positions. Measure the route from the charger position to the port before you choose.
Choose the ePod if
- You prefer a smaller unit with no cable on the wall between charges.
- You are happy to take the cable from the car each time you charge.
- Different vehicles may use the charger and you want a cable to suit each one. Ohme lists the ePod for Type 1 and Type 2 vehicles with the right cable.

Connectivity: mobile signal, not Wi-Fi
Both chargers in our Irish catalogue connect through a built-in multi-network SIM. They need mobile coverage where the charger is mounted, not Wi-Fi or a cable to your router. Ohme's datasheets state that it covers the SIM cost for the first three years. We did not find a published charge for later years, so ask Ohme before you rely on it.
If the charger cannot connect when you plug in, Ohme's installation guide says it behaves like a standard charger: it charges, but does not follow your schedule. Ohme's support pages say it then charges until the car is full or you unplug.
Electricity tariffs and scheduling
You enter your electricity tariff in the Ohme app, then set a charging target and a ready-by time. The charger plans charging for the cheaper periods of that tariff. Ohme's Irish site says it works with any supplier or tariff. We did not find a published list of Irish tariffs with automatic price updates, so check your plan's times and rates in the app after any price change.

Solar charging
Both models offer Solar Boost and Solar Only settings. Ohme lists these conditions:
- A complete installation from January 2023 onwards, with a CT clamp giving a reading. Our installations fit the CT clamp for load balancing as standard.
- Ohme app version 2.10.0 or later.
- Solar Only needs at least 1.44 kW of surplus solar power to start, or 0.72 kW if you allow some grid power. When sunlight drops, it uses grid power for about 15 seconds and then stops.
Solar Boost aims to reach your charging target and uses grid power when it needs to. A small solar array or a dull day may give little surplus. If you have a home battery, ask your battery installer how it will interact with car charging.
Installation, load balancing and the SEAI grant
Both chargers need a dedicated circuit installed by a Safe Electric registered electrical contractor, and a wired connection to a CT clamp on your incoming supply for load balancing. The CT cable carries sensor readings only; the installer chooses the cable and route. The contractor also checks your earthing and bonding and specifies any work needed. Both models are on SEAI's list of grant-eligible chargers. The €300 SEAI Home Charger Grant needs approval before the work starts and a claim within six months. Check eligibility first.
What it costs
Each charger we offer has a fixed installed price. It includes the charger, Standard Installation, load balancing, testing, certification and the grant paperwork. Work outside Standard Installation, such as a fuseboard upgrade or a long cable run, is quoted before you pay.
