Your first charge
Home Pro has a fixed Type 2 cable, in the 5 m or 8 m configuration selected at order, and a display on the charger. Download the Ohme app and connect your account by scanning the charger QR code or entering its serial number. One Ohme account links to the charger at a time. The installer completes electrical commissioning before handover.
- Add your vehicle and electricity tariff in the Ohme app.
- Set a charging target and ready-by time, then plug the attached cable into the car.
- Check the planned session in the app and the charger display.
- Stop charging and unlock the connector through the vehicle before unplugging.
Tariffs, routines and charging targets
Enter your actual electricity tariff in the Ohme app. With Dynamic charging enabled, a Routine sets the days, charging target and ready-by time. Availability of automatic tariff integrations depends on your supplier and plan. Battery percentage readings require a supported vehicle account connection; smart charging still works without this, using an amount to add. Check the car's own charge limit and avoid conflicting car and charger schedules.
- With the car unplugged and the charger online, enable Dynamic charging.
- Open Routines, set the days, target and ready-by time, then save and enable the Routine.
- Check Your Next Charge before plugging in. Use Max Charge when you need an immediate charge; grid electricity may cost more outside your cheap hours.
Internet connection
The Ohme Home Pro and ePod models in our Irish catalogue use a built-in mobile SIM for internet access, so they need mobile coverage at the charger rather than a cable to your router. Other Ohme variants can use Wi-Fi; check the exact model. Check My Charger in the app for online status. The Home Pro may display a reconnecting message; on ePod the rightmost light can blink orange while connecting. If it stays offline, contact us with the serial number and the app message. Do not remove the SIM or open the charger.
Load balancing and Cat6 cabling
Ohme Home Pro (5 m and 8 m) and ePod need a wired connection to their CT clamp for load balancing. The CT clamp measures household electricity demand. Cat6 is not specifically required: Ohme permits suitable Ethernet-type, twisted-pair or Belden data cable, up to 60 m. The installer selects the cable and route between the charger and the sensor on the incoming supply. The CT cable carries sensor readings; it is not a connection to your home network. Load balancing is included in our installations. The cable lengths above are manufacturer limits, not the cable allowance included in Standard Installation. Ask us to assess an existing cable or proposed route before arranging cabling. The installer selects suitable cable, protection and routing. Leave CT clamps and electrical connections to the installer. Charging can slow or pause when household demand rises. This is normal load management; persistent tripping needs an installer check.
Solar Boost and Solar Only
Solar charging needs a working CT reading, an online charger and an eligible hardware/software setup. Ohme lists most Home Pro and ePod installations from January 2023 onwards; check whether Solar charging appears in your app. Solar Boost can use grid electricity to meet a target. Solar Only, where available, waits for surplus and has no ready-by target. It can briefly use grid power when sunlight drops. Update the app and check the available settings before relying on either mode. A home battery may discharge into the car; ask your battery installer about compatible schedules.
Screen messages and charging problems
Read the Home Pro display and the Ohme app together. Check online status, your next Routine, the car's charge limit and whether the car is accepting charge. Missing battery percentage can be a vehicle-account connection issue rather than a charger fault. Stop using the charger if it is damaged, smells burnt or repeatedly trips the supply. Contact ev@volteire.ie with the model, serial number, app error and a photo of the light pattern. Do not open the enclosure or change electrical protection settings.
Cable care and charging speed
Keep connectors clean and dry, store cables clear of vehicle tyres and walking routes, and avoid tight bends or pulling on the cable. Do not use a damaged lead or force a locked connector. Keep the charger exterior clean without pressure washing. Actual charging speed is limited by the car's onboard AC charger, the cable, household capacity, load balancing and battery conditions. A rated output is a maximum, not a fixed full-charge time. Tell us the vehicle model if its AC connection differs from Type 2.
Warranty and support
Your installation is covered by a 2-year Volt Éire workmanship warranty, and the charger unit carries a separate 3-year manufacturer warranty from Ohme. We handle manufacturer claims for you — one email to ev@volteire.ie covers both. Keep your invoice, serial number and installation handover documents for any claim. Manufacturer terms and your statutory rights apply.
