BENY 7.4 kW Smart Charger owner guide

Everything you need to run your charger day to day. Written for this unit specifically — the app and controls differ between chargers, so instructions for a different model will not match what you see.

Your first charge

Your installer commissions the charger and runs a test charge before leaving, so it is ready to use. The cable is permanently attached — there is nothing to fetch.

  1. Plug the attached cable into your car.
  2. The status light confirms the charger has recognised the vehicle.
  3. Charging starts immediately unless you have set a schedule.
  4. Unplug at the car when you are done.

Charging on your night rate

Most of the saving comes from charging during night-rate hours. Set the schedule once in the Z-BOX app and it repeats every night — you can leave the car plugged in whenever you get home.

  1. Open the Z-BOX app and select your charger.
  2. Set the start and end times to match your tariff's night window.
  3. Save. The charger will now wait for the window before drawing power.

Access cards

The unit ships with RFID cards. Tap one to authorise a charge if you want to control who can use the charger — useful on a shared driveway. If you do not need it, leave access control off and the charger works for anyone who plugs in.

Load balancing

Current sensors on your incoming supply let the charger reduce its draw when the house is using a lot of power, then return to full speed. You do not need to do anything — it is automatic, and it is why a heavy-load moment will not trip your main fuse mid-charge.

If something looks wrong

Check the status light first, then the app. Most issues are a loose connection at the car end or a scheduled window that has not started yet. If the light shows a fault, email ev@volteire.ie with a photo of the unit and we will take it from there.

Warranty and support

Your installation is covered by a 2-year Volt Éire workmanship warranty, and the charger unit carries a separate 3-year manufacturer warranty from BENY. We handle manufacturer claims for you — one email to ev@volteire.ie covers both.

Still stuck?

Email ev@volteire.ie with your Eircode and a photo of the charger. We handle manufacturer claims for you, so you only need to talk to us.
