Getting started

Your charger is fully commissioned by the time we leave. Here's what to do on day one.

Your first charge

  1. Park within reach of the cable. The Type 2 plug is on a 5 m tethered cable.
  2. Wake the charger by waving a hand near it (it has a presence sensor) — the LCD will light up.
  3. Tap one of the two RFID cards that came in the box on the reader on the front. You'll hear a short beep.
  4. Plug the Type 2 connector into your car. The car takes over from there.
  5. The green LED ring will fill outwards as you charge.

You don't need the Z-BOX app on day one — RFID + plug-in is enough. The app unlocks scheduled charging and history when you're ready.

What the LED ring means

The ring around the bottom of the charger shows what's happening at a glance.

Lights off
No power. Check the breaker at your fuseboard.
All green LEDs ON, brightness fading top → bottom
Charger powered up, waiting for you to plug in or tap an RFID card.
Green LEDs running up and down
Plugged in — the charger is waiting for you to authenticate (RFID card or app).
Green LED in the middle
Authenticated — waiting for the car to start drawing current.
Green LEDs expanding from the middle outward
Charging is underway.
All green LEDs solid ON
Charge complete. Safe to unplug.
Green LED slow breathing
Standby — nothing plugged in.
Green LEDs slow blinking
Wi-Fi setup mode (only after you start it from the app).
Yellow LEDs flashing
Charger needs configuration in the app — open the Z-BOX app to finish setup.

For red, yellow-flashing or other unusual states, see the troubleshooting guide.

Emergency stop

The red button on the side is a hard stop. Press it to immediately cut power to the charger. To reset: twist the button clockwise until it pops back out, then unplug and replug your car.

Only use it for actual emergencies — for everyday stop, just unplug from your car.

Cable care

  • Don't drive over the cable.
  • Hang the connector on the holster when not in use — keep it off the ground.
  • Don't use cleaning solvents — wipe the cable and unit with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Don't use an extension lead.
